George Tipton Barn, Chestnut Flats Road, Cades Cove, Tennessee Great Smoky Mountains National Park NOTE the split rails used to fill the chinks, the absence of mud sealing the chink, and the rived pine boards ceiling the chink. Many of those rived boards are four feet long... In riving the boards (shakes) to cover the roof, the heart portions of the log cannot be used... these are often used to cell the chinks.
