Cotton gin Great Smoky Mountains National Park Cotton gin made by John Walker and used by the Walker Sisters when the photograph was taken. The basket of white oak splits was also made by John Walker. The portion of a horseshoe in front of the basket was later picked up... It was shaped so it could be used as a dog, used in laying flooring. Rollers made of hickory, the rest of the gin constructed of oak.
