Two signs at Laurel Falls TrailheadGreat Smoky Mountains National ParkTwo signs at Laurel Falls Trailhead. LAUREL FALLS TRAIL This trail assends gradually for 1 1/3 miles to Laurel Falls. It is an easy and delightful walk through a forest which was logged and ravaged by wildfire long before the park was established in 1934. For these reasons, big trees are scarce. With natural reforestation and protection many of the scars are healing rapidly. Beyond Laurel Falls the trail continues for 3 miles to Cove Mountain Lookout where there is an excellent panaramic view of the surrounding mountains and is worth the challenge. The film shows the trail as it should be constructed. Mt. Cammerer Trail, constructionGreat Smoky Mountains National ParkThe film shows the trail as it should be constructed. The shooting wire held by the men in the picture gives the alignment. With very little additional drilling, Foreman Parsley can put up with this section on solid rock and eliminate wall work that will be very difficult to hold. This is especially true of the foundation towards the position from which the picture was taken. Mt. Cammerer Trail; construction, II-Th-5197, Physical Facilities - Trails - Horse Trails

Sign for the trail to observation tower, Clingmans DomeGreat Smoky Mountains National ParkTRAIL TO OBSERVATION TOWER ON CLINGMAN'S DOME: This trail leads to the summit of Clingman's Dome, the highest mountain in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Length of the trail is slightly over 1/2/ mile (2950 ft.); you gain approximately 330 ft. in altitude in that distance. On the summit, partly in North Carolina and partly in Tennessee, is a concrete ramp with spirals up to an observation tower above the surrounding forest. From there, providing weather conditions are favorable, the observer beholds an impressive panorama of mountains and valleys.Signs; Trail to Clingmen's Dome, II-A-Sign-4686, Physical Facilities - Minor Structures - Signs

This work was done in the winter or spring of 1934. Mt. Cammerer (White Rock) Trail Clean-UpGreat Smoky Mountains National ParkThis work was done in the winter or spring of 1934...All the debris, both large and fine, was removed from the side of the trail for 100 feet and left a windrow. This work was not supervised by a forestry foreman at the time. At present, it is so matted that scattering is impossible. It is being burned with some damage to the vegetation. By starting the burning at one end of the windrow, the head it kept as low as possible. Mt. Cammerer (White Rock) Trail Clean-Up, II-Th-5232, Physical Facilities - Trails - Horse Trails
