Transcription[Letter] (Copy of Gen [General] Hunters endorsement); Head Qrs [Headquarters] Dept [Department] of the South; Hilton Head S.C.; April 3rd 1862; Colonel; I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of 2nd [inst?] addressed to Capt [Captain] Ely, upon which the Major Genl [General] Comdg [Commanding] has placed the following endorsement.; Hd Qrs [Headquarters] Dept [Department] of the South; Port Royal 3rd April 1862; Respectfully forwarded to the Hon [Honorable] Secy [Secretary] of War with a full endorsement of the facts within stated and an earnest recommendation that Col [Colonel] Serrells regiment having been accepted and mustered in as Engineers and having rendered important and valuable services as such, be now paid as Engineers.
