Spruce Fir Nature Trail sign Great Smoky Mountains National Park Spruce Fir Nature Trail Sign. The Spruce Fir Trail. The various peaks which form the backbone of the Appalachian Mountains are like a series of high stepping-stones which serve to connect the Great Smokies with Canada. In these two widely separated areas the climate, the soil, and the plant life are remarkably similar. The southernmost extent of this cool evergreen forest is in Great Smoky Mountains National Park; here it reaches its maximum development. This precious wilderness heritage will remain undisturbed for the enjoyment of this and future generations. Take the self-guide leaflet with you in order to learn more about what you see. Retain it if you wish - otherwise please replace it. Total trail distance 3/4 mile. Spruce Fir Nature Trail Sign, II-A-Sign-4537, Physical Facilities - Minor Structures - Signs
