Portrait of woman wearing cape and bonnet Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Cased print of a woman in a dark dress, cape, gloves and bonnet. Bonnet and cape appear to have black satin ribbon trimming. Woman has her hair parted in the center and pink tinted cheeks. Case is hinged, wood, covered with a reddish-brown leather-like material embossed with a floral pattern on the front and a small metal hook on the right edge. Interior left has a red velvet lining, embossed with name and address of gallery. Right side has a narrow, red velvet framing enclosing an embossed gilt metal frame, glass, gilt metal matte with open oval center and the print. Dates between 1845 to 1860. marks: interior left side embossed "root's/gallery/140/chestnut st./philad.a"

Portrait of unknown woman Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Cased, medium size, and shows a woman dressed in gray, long-sleeve dress with a "v" shape bodice or shawl. Her hair is parted in the middle and pulled straight down and behind her ears. Her left arm is resting on a table and the right is across her lap. Wood case is hinged and covered with an embossed, leather-like material. Right side has a small brass hook. Interior has an embossed, red velvet liner on the left, and the right has a narrow red velvet covered strip surrounding an ornately embossed brass binder, brass cut-out mat, and glass cover. Dates 19th century.

Portrait of unidentified woman wearing a brooch, seated Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Glass plate of woman sitting in a dark taffeta (?) long sleeve dress, light lace collar with broach in front. Hair is parted in middle and covers her ears and then pulled to back. Plate is in a black wood, embossed case with small brass latch on right side. Front portion is partially intact and case has red lining on inside. Plate has thin, gold metal embossed framing over it.
Letter, 1859 April 7, M.A. Smith (Baltimore) to Mr. Burton (Harpers Ferry) Harpers Ferry National Historical Park; National Park Service A sheet of laid paper ruled with blue lines and folded in half containing a letter dated April 7,(18)59 from M.A. Smith, Baltimore to Mr. Burton requesting him to forward goods from Harpers Ferry to Cumberland. A postscript continues on the second page. The document has been spindled leaving a hole near the center of each half. The paper is in poor condition, the front and back pages are very soiled and stained. Salvaged from building 14, Burton's Jewelry Store when it was dismantled

Portrait of unidentified man Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Glass plate of a man sitting in a dark suit, white shirt and a black string bow tie. The man's features aren't very distinctive, the plate has scratches above the head and one side. In a black wood case with a 34 star flag on the front and embossed around the edge. Small brass latch on right side. The front hs broken loose from the binding. The plate has a thin, gold embossed framing over it. Measures 3 1/8" x 3 5/8".
Letter, 1859 April 7, M.A. Smith (Baltimore) to Mr. Burton (Harpers Ferry) Harpers Ferry National Historical Park; National Park Service A sheet of laid paper ruled with blue lines and folded in half containing a letter dated April 7,(18)59 from M.A. Smith, Baltimore to Mr. Burton requesting him to forward goods from Harpers Ferry to Cumberland. A postscript continues on the second page. The document has been spindled leaving a hole near the center of each half. The paper is in poor condition, the front and back pages are very soiled and stained. Salvaged from building 14, Burton's Jewelry Store when it was dismantled

The signature undecipherable, is in another handwriting. The opposite side carries the certification by the captain of battery a that the horse does not belong to the battery. Below is a statement in German. stained, creased, many fine holes.
