Natural Heritage Registry, Gatlinburg, Tennessee Great Smoky Mountains National Park Zoltan Rozsnyai directs the Knoxville Chamber Orchestra at ceremony for Natural Heritage Registry. Certificates of Natural Heritage Registry were presented to Great Smoky Mountains National Park by the States of NC and Tenn. 2 Sept. 1982. Ceremony had been planned for Newfound Gap, but weather conditions made it necessary to move the event to the Gatlinburg Civic Auditorium. Great Smoky Mountains Natinoal Park has long been recognized for its ecological diversity, its geological diversity, its mountainous terrain, and its large expanses of virgin forests. These natural values have led both the States of North Carolina and Tennessee to describe large natural areas of the Park for inclusion in their Natural Heritage Registries. Women of the park embroidered and made a quilt during the summer of 1973 Great Smoky Mountains National Park Based on wild flower designs, the Park Women embroidered and made a quilt. During the summer of 1973, various members went to Cades Cove and quilted at the Becky Cable House. The quilt was ultimately raffled off with the proceeds going to the Sevier County Association for Retarded Children. Winner of the quilt was Mrs. Edgar Menning (Jean) who was living in Omaha, Nebr.
