Foot trail bridge No. 1, over West Prong of Little Pigeon River, on Chimneys Trail, Chimneys Foot Bridge No. 1 Great Smoky Mountains National Park Foot trail bridge No. 1, over West Prong of Little Pigeon River, on Chimneys Trail, work done by CCC, completed in 1936, cost, (in connection with Bridge #2): mandays- $640, materials- $139.02, total- $779.02. NOTE: This bridge in conncetion with Bridge #2 and should be about 2/3 total cost., Constructed of single width, large logs in two spans. The height above the floor of the stream is necessary due to the seasonal high waters. Solid footing was available at the center of the stream at a point where it was desirable to cross with the trail., The tread is about two feet wide and there is a handrail on the down-stream side. The abutments and pier are of masonry-backed stone which have also been held together with steel pins., All of the work was done by CCC's with a local, enlisted man as foreman.
