Little River, Elkmont Bridge Great Smoky Mountains National Park Elkmont vehicle bridge, over Little River, at Elkmont, Tenn... Downstream elevation, looking east. Work done by CCC... Completed in 1937. Cost: Mondays-$2,832.00; materials- $6,755.73; Skilled labor- $938.50; TOTAL: $36,014.23. Note: This negative will make a print showing more detail if a softer paper is used. Eakin investigation photograph; Four spans, multi-plate steel arches with masonry piers and spandrel walls. The spans are 25 ft. The piers average 8 ft. in depth from spring line. This bridge has be constructed entirely by CCC's without the use of skilled labor. It was set up as a CCC project with the object of providing a permanent structure with the cost of materials less than the estimate for labor. The initial design was made by R.A. Wilhelm while V.R. Ludgate was resident Landscape Architect.
