Dressing or currying the hide Great Smoky Mountains National Park Dressing (or currying) the hide: the hide is dressed only on the pelt side. Today, a currying knife with an edge similar to a cabinet scraper is used. Many of those rived boards are four feet long... In riving the boards (shakes) to cover the roof, the heart portions of the log cannot be used... these are often used to cell the chinks.
