Short cape-type sleeves are trimmed with embroidery material extending beneath sleeve. Hair is combed straight back and below the ears. One arm is resting on arm of chair or table (?). She has ring on first finger of her right hand. Glass plate has thin gold embossed framing. It also has red lining on inside. Small brass latch on right side.

Dress has black panel down center front and light collar. Wearing a broach at neckline. Hair is parted in the middle withcurls behind ears. She is holding book in hand. Plate has thin, gold, embossedframing over it. There is a string tied around the framing.

The sleeves have velvet trim around upper portion. Young lady has hair parted in middle and pulled back tight. She also has on long earrings and ring on third finger of right hand. Glass plate is in a black wooden, embossed case and front is broken from binding. It has small brass latch on the right side, and red lining on inside.
Portrait of Mary Ielellan Parsons, seated, wearing a plaid dress, circa 1850 Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Mary Ielellan Parsons, sitting view, in plaid off-shoulder, hoop skirt dress, brooch at center neck, bracelet on each arm, dark hair parted in center, in long curls and pulled back from face. Lips and cheeks tinted. In embossed wood case, two brass fastners, left interior has embossed red velvet liner; image behind clear glass, embossed brass inder and curved cut-out mat. One arm resting on chair, arm or table. Glass plate is in black wood, embossed case with brass latch on right side. Front of case is broken loose from binding and it has red lining on inside. Plate has thin gold embossed framing over it. The case measures 2 5/16 x 2 7/8 inches.
