Indian River Lagoon Abstract: The Indian River Lagoon is located on the east coast of Florida and runs along the coast from northern Palm Beach County near Jupiter north to the Titusville area in Orange County. The northern portion of the lagoon is under the jurisdiction of the St. Johns Water Management District while the more southern portion is under the jurisdiction of the South Florida Water Management District. The IRL Water Quality monitoring project focuses on the southern portion of the Indian River Lagoon that is within the South Florida Water Management District boundaries. This area is essentially defines as extending from the northern St. Lucie county line south to the Jupiter inlet. This portion of the IRL is flushed by three inlets to the ocean. These inlets include Ft. Pierce inlet to the north, St. Lucie inlet in the center and Jupiter inlet in the south. Freshwater inflows into the IRL are from the C-25 canal in northern St. Lucie County and the St. Lucie canal, which serves as a navigation channel to Lake Okeechobee. There are twenty-one stations sampled as part of the IRL project. These stations were selected because they are associated with sea grass beds in the lagoon.; Project Start Date: 1988
