Clear roadway after rock slides are removed, Gatlinburg, Tennessee Great Smoky Mountains National Park In the early morning of April 7, 1964, a large slide came down on the northbound lane of the Gatlinburg spur, about 200 feet north of the tunnel. It completely blocked the road. Traffic was diverted to the southbound lane while the slide was being removed. Removal of the slide was completed a week later.
