The framing has an oval-shaped cut out in the center which sets over the tintype, framing the individual.

Left interior of case has velvet floral embossed brown lining and tintype encased behind glass, an embossed brass binder and cut-out mat. Center of cut-out is oval.

Portrait of unidentified woman, circa 1850 Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Medium size, tintype of a woman in a dark, puffed long sleeved dress, with button front, trimming down bodice and dark collar with brooch in the center front. Her hair is parted in the center, pulled straight down and under, and back behind her ears. Embossed leather-like hinged wood case with brass hook on right edge. Interior has red, embossed velvet liner on left side, right side has a narrow, faded red velvet strip surrounding an ornate brass binder, tintype, curved brass cut-out mat and glass. Dates 19th century.

Short cape-type sleeves are trimmed with embroidery material extending beneath sleeve. Hair is combed straight back and below the ears. One arm is resting on arm of chair or table (?). She has ring on first finger of her right hand. Glass plate has thin gold embossed framing. It also has red lining on inside. Small brass latch on right side.
