Smokemont Nature Trail sign Great Smoky Mountains National Park Smokemont Nature Trail: A century ago the only people who visited these mountains were a few white pioneers and the Cherokee Indians. Then came the early settlers who cultivated the fertile valleys and some of the sloping mountainsides. These were followed by lumbermen-sawmills were operating here only a few decades ago. Finally there came the establishment of preserving all the plant and animal life for all time. This nature trail circles back to this place in less than a leaflet and stopping at the numbered guide-posts you will become better acquainted with the Smokemont portion of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Please- no picnicking along this trail.Signs; Smokemont Nature Trail, II-A-Sign-4687, Physical Facilities - Minor Structures - Signs
