Dolly for mounting and de-mounting truck and equipment wheels with set of wheels to right, 1960Great Smoky Mountains National ParkSuggestion by Columbus B. Cardwell and R. Glenn Branam for Incentive Awards. It is welded up out of 4' angle iron with a pipe handle. Three 4 casters, one of which can rotate, allow the dolly to be positioned and moved, loaded, easily. In operation, the axle is jacked up and the dolly positioned. The wheel-retaining nuts are then removed and the jack is lowered until the dolly takes the weight of the wheels, then is backed away from the truck. When removing single wheels, a bumper type jack is put in a slot on the dolly as shown in the photos and the jack engages the wheel rim, holding the wheel in an upright position. One mechanic removes and replaces dual or single wheels up to 10:00 X 24 for brake, bearing, and grease seal repairs, without help. Above the labor costs saved, the elimination of the safety hazard of sprained backs or muscles is of uncalculated value.Dolly for mounting and demounting truck and equipment wheels, II-E-3718, Physical Facilities - Equipment
