Letter to Brooks from Eaton in response to Brooks' request for measurements of sand bags. Eaton reports the average dimensions and weight of sand bags at Fort Putnam. Eaton also writes that he wants to go home for a few days, and shall be very much obliged if Brooks airs that desire.
Transcription[Letter] Camp Vol. [Volunteer] Engrs. [Engineers] Detach. [Detachment]; Morris Is. [Isle] S. C. [South Carolina]; Dec [December] 31st 1864; Maj [Major] T. B. Brooks; A. D. C.; H. Q.[Headquarters] Folly Is. [Isle] S. C.[South Carolina]; Major, your note in regard to sand bag dimensions was rec'd yesterday. I took the measurements of several sand bag [????] at Fort Putnam and the following are the averages found. Length of bag 23 inches. Width " [of bag] 11 " [inches].
