Letter to Brooks from Shaw regarding the durability of the platforms and embrasures in the Battery of the 30 Pdr Parrotts under his command. Shaw reports that the platforms and embrasures remain in nearly as good condition as when first put down.
Transcription[Letter] Headquarters Battalion [3rd R. D. A.?]; Morris Island Sept [September]-13, 63; Major; In accordance with instructions received from Headquarters Requiring information in reguard to the durability of the Platforms and Embrasures in the Battery of the 30 Pdr Parrotts under my command. I have the honor to report that the Platforms and Embrasures remain in nearly as good condition as when first put down. We were obliged to repair one Platform by putting a new plank in the place of one slightly sunken by the tail of the piece. With this exception they worked admirably. No repairs were necessary for the Embrasures. I have the honor to be; Very Respectfully Your Obd. [Obedient] Servt. [Servant]; Richard G. Shaw; Capt. [Captain] [????] 3rd R. I.
