Letter to Brooks from Randlett reporting the names of three men who were killed or wounded from explosion of torpedoes while Randlett was on duty with his command in Advance Trenches on the night of August 31st, 1863.
Transcription[Letter] Prov [Provost] Marshals Office; Morris Island S. C. [South Carolina] Nov [November] 20th 1863; Maj [Major] T. B. Brooks; A. D. C.; Dear Major; Your note of 19th [????] has just been received and I have the honor to reply that on the night of August 31st 1863 while on duty with my command in Advance Trenches, our loss from explosion of torpedoes was: William F. Whitman [????] Killed, Albert George " " wounded severely, James A. [Frinnaer?] " " " slightly. These men were advancing to their Posts as advance [????] Skirmishers. [????] you have returned Major hope you are well and I may see you soon. Yours Respectfully and Truly; James F. Randlett; Capt [Captain] 3d [3rd] [????]; Provost Marshal; Major T. B. Brooks; A. D. C.
