Transcription4; Such 8" or 10" siege mortars could probably be mounted on the deck of a monitor. The first would be a shot proof parapet. A stockade of [????] could be [built?] to protect the [????] mortars from [????]. The [????] shells [????] could be fired very rapidly. The mortars [????] in this case [????] loaded with [????] and [defensive?]. By this plan a heavy mortar fire could be [brought in any work?] or camp of the enemy with [????] suddenly so as to take him by surprise.
