Description of the order of signals used in Brooks' signaling system.
TranscriptionAttention is called by one long continuous blare of the whistle. At this signall [signal] the officer of the [deck?] of on the Steam Transport within hearing will give strict attention. Next the number of the vessel with which it is desired to communicate will be sounded and the number repeated for greater certainty. Next the number of the order in question which is to be communicated will be sounded.
