Letter to Major Brooks from Mueller at Fort Pulaski answering questions asked by Major Brooks in a previous letter about troops, work, and enemy fire during a siege.
Transcription[Letter, continued] obtain cover that they did not do more. If I had to make a difference at all I should make it in favor of the soldiers as they worked in the trenches in front of [?????]. 6th; How fast under average circumstances could the "Full Turkish [???]" be advanced? I should say nine feet per hour. You ask further how many shot from the enemies guns for how did we [???] heavy firing? I can't answer this accurately at all as I cannot remember of taking any count at anytime during the siege. I hope this will answer your purpose but I think your own judgement better than mine as you had more opportunity of looking over the whole field and taking notes. I can only answer for my own experience. Have you heard from home? I have not rec'd [received] a letter yet but feel sure there must be some in the Department for me. No news of interest here. I send on in another letter something for your consideration. I want to make you [rich?]. Accept my love and pass it on home next time you write. Yours sincerely; [Joseph?] [Mueller?]; [illegible]
