Letter to Major Brooks from Mueller at Fort Pulaski answering questions asked by Major Brooks in a previous letter about troops, work, and enemy fire during a siege.
Transcription[Letter] Fort Pulaski; Cockspur Island Ga. [Georgia]; Dec. [December] 28th 1863; My dear Major Brooks; I rec'd [received] your letter dated Dec. [December] 8th on the day before Christmas and have not had opportunity of answering it before. I have been very badly off for writing opportunities as I have quartered with Col. [??????] and no desk or paper or pen or ink of my own. I heard of you at the [???] dancing and enjoying yourself at the [?????] party. We had a party here on Christmas- very pleasant and agreeable Ladies and Gentlemen- in the evening a theatrical performance one of the best I ever saw and most enjoyable and [illegible] which we kept up until the "wee [???] hours." If you had seen me tripping the light fantastic [?]ve I don't know what you might have likened me to- something very flattering I expect. You ask me in your letter question which I answer [??????] 1st; when shall you be back? I don't know but hope it will be pretty
