TranscriptionThe following endorsement by Gen. [General] Sherman is in relation to the back pay of officers of the Vol. [Volunteer] Engineers; Copy; Serrells Regiment of Vol. [Volunteer] Engineers belonging to the class of "independent acceptances" the officers and men are entitled to pay from the date of acceptance or enrolment [enrollment], by virtue of acts of Congress approved July 24 '61 [1861] and August 6 '61 [1861] and Gen. [General] orders War Dept. [Department] A.G.O. of Sep [September] 13/61, and the Chief Paymaster is requested to regulate the payment of this Regiment accordingly. (Signed) T.W. Sherman; Brig.
