Descriptive InformationThis shattered Black Locust (Robinia pseudocacia) was once the largest tree of its kind in the Park. Torn asunder by a fierce summer storm, its day is drawing to a close, and soon the forces of decay will triumph over its waning vitality. Black Locust wood is heavy, hard, and very strong. Honeybees are strongly attached to the fragrant clusters of white, sweet-pea-like flowers that appear in April or May.
