TranscriptionMemoranda respecting 300 pdr. When first injured and how badly? [check] How repaired and how long repairing? [check] When injured again and how badly? Sept. 6 [check] How many rounds fired up to first injury? [check] 27 How many rounds fired in all? 398 [check] On 2nd day on 27th Shot missile burst in muzzle breaking 18 inches off of muzzle-in 5 pieces and leaving a crack at muzzle about 4 1/2 inches. Broke at 10 A. M. commenced repairing at 5 P. M. at 3 P. M. next day was ready for use. The muzzle was chipped out back to the end of the fracture then practically making a new muzzle. 19 shell burst in or just leaving the muzzle. Several missiles wabbled in their flight owing to the parting of the [????] from the shot before it left the gun. All these fell short. Capt. [Captain] [????] thinks the gun can be made as servicable as ever by shrinking a reinforce on the muzzle as on the breech say 3 in thick and 18 in long.
