Descriptive InformationIn the early morning of April 7, 1964, a large slide came down on the northbound lane of the Gatlinburg Spur, about 200 feet north of the tunnel. It completely blocked the road. Traffic was diverted to the southbound lane while the slide was being removed. The slide was completely removed by a week later.
