Letter to Brooks from Barnard stating that Barnard is aware that copies of a chart of Charleston Harbor sent to Brooks previously must be erroneous. Barnard writes that it is necessary to issue a new edition of this map, and would be greatly gratified to receive some suggestions from Brooks for its improvement.
Transcription[Letter] U. S. Coast Survey Office; Washington, Aug [August] 28, 1863; Sir; On the 15th [illegible] I had the honor to send you drawings of the north and South Shores of Charleston Harbor, and of Morris and Folly Islands, taken from the original drawings in the archives of the Coast Survey. I sent at or about the same time, copies of a chart of Charleston Harbor, prepared in their office from such material as we could obtain, to illustrate the general state of things in that quarter at present. We are aware that that chart must be erroneous, both in regard to the [????] and the positions of the rebel [????]. As it has become necessary for us to issue a new edition of this map, we should be greatly gratified to receive some suggestions from you for its improvement. Respectfully; F. A. P. Barnard; Acting Asst. [Assistant] in Charge of Office; Capt. [Captain] T. B. Brooks; Head Qrs [Headquarters] Army of the South.
