Descriptive Information

TranscriptionAn additional Requa battery will be placed on the right of the 4th Parallel behind the gabion. This piece will be taken from left of the 3rd parallel. A force of 150 Infantry in the 4th parallel will be prepared to occupy the ridge as soon as the enemy are driven from it. One half of the force in additional to their arms will carry shovels. The heavy guns of the batteries of the 2nd parallel will keep up a brisk fire on the fort this afternoon, commencing not later than 3 o'clock and continuing through the night with solid shot. The 8 inch siege mortars, the Coehorn and the Navy howitzers and Requa, at the left of the 4th parallel will open fire on the ridge at 5 3/4 o'clock P.M. The 8 in. [inch] directing their fire rather to the seaward end of the ridge, and being careful to cut their fuses of such length that our men in the 4th parallel will not be injured. The pieces on the left will fire so as to enfilade the reverse of the ridge as much as possible. As soon as the enemy are driven out these pieces, excepting the Requa and Navy howitzer, will direct their fire on the fort to cover the advance of our infantry.
