TranscriptionMonday August 24th 1863; Siege work Night; Lieut. [Lieutenant] Baldwin went on duty at 4 o'c P.M. and was relieved at 12 o'c P.M.; 1st. Covering magazine of 4-8 inch mortar battery; 2nd. Constructing a causeway, between creeks, on Left of 2nd parallel; 3rd. Alteration of Embrasures in 100 and 200 pdr. batteries; Detail 13 Engrs. [Engineers] and 38 Infantry; Material used spikes-yellow pine (plank) and Sand; Lieut. [Lieutenant] Baldwin had completed the Causeway and laid the platform at its extremity, at the time of his relief, by Lieut. [Lieutenant] Adams. Lieut. [Lieutenant] Adams relieved Lieut. [Lieutenant] Baldwin at 12 o'c P.M. and continued the following work, until 8 o'c A.M.; 1st. Building platform for pier in marsh; 2nd. Strengthening magazine of the 4-8 inch mortar battery, in approach to 3rd parallel; 3rd. Repairing embrasures of 100 and 200 pdr. batteries
