TranscriptionI have used the following plan as regard details, hours of relieving, transportation andc [etc.]; 1st. Capt. [Captain] Walker and Suess and Lieuts. [Lieutenants] Wilcken and Parsons of the N.Y. [New York] Vol. [Voluntary] Engrs. [Engineers] have had charge of the Sap, and 49 Engineer soldiers have constituted the four Sapping Brigades. I have found it convenient to allow these officers to select their own times of relieving; 2nd. For such general duty as repairs, improvements, andc [etc.] between the head of the Sap and the 1st Parallel the following officers have been employed, Cap. [Captain] Graef and Lieuts. [Lieutenants] Farrand, Talcott and Baldwin, N.Y. [New York] Vol. [Voluntary] Engrs. [Engineers], and Capt. [Captain] Pratt 55th Mass. [Massachusetts] and Lieut. [Lieutenant] Adams 4th N.H. [New Hampshire] Vols. [Volunteers] relieving eachother at 8 A.M. 4 P.M. and 12 midnight. One third of these officers have been sick for several days, and the Sapping officers have to some extent taken their places; 3rd. At 4 A.M. 12 M [midnight] and 8 P.M. 19 engineer non-com [non-commissioned?] officers and soldiers, and one fourth of the available strength of the 54th Mass. [Massachusetts] Infantry report in the trenches for duty to the 2nd group of officers above designated; 4th. Corp. [Corporal] Crane with 12 men, and Corp. [Corporal] Chandler with 3 men, relieve each other alternately
