TranscriptionSunday August 23rd 1863; The Bombardment continued again today. A flag of truce left Hd. Qrs. [Headquarters] this morning, bearing dispatches to Genl. [General] Beauregard. The 300 pdr. made some very good shots today, Sumter is in a very bad condition, from the heavy firing of the last few days, however she occasionally fires from the two guns in position. This evg. [evening] about 7 o'c. 150 rounds of shell, enclosing the greek fire went up to the swamp angle [angel] battery. The Swamp Angle [Angel] opened fire on Charleston, at 11 o'c P.M. She fired about [????] shots 7 of which took effect in the city, when she burst, a shell having exploded before leaving the piece, two men were wounded by the explosion, and the angle [angel] was rendered useless.
