Transcription[Letter] Camp of Vol [Volunteer] Engrs [Engineers]; Folly Island S.C. Dec [December] 12th 1863; Major; In answer to your communication of 11th First "relating to the preparation of Engineer material done under my direction on Folly Island I have the honor to forward the following statement for your information; Query 1st; "The organization and arrangement of the working parties, number of Engineers, Infantry, Tools andc [etc.]; Answer; The fatigue party consisted of a daily average of the men 26 Engrs [Engineers] and 75 Infantry: [two from three?] [????] (12 Axes, 25 Hatchets) Rope, Wire, and the necessary frames to which were procured from the Engr [Engineer] Depot on Morris Island ([????] Engr. [Engineer] Material). The Fatigue party was divided into seven working parties, and therein into squads (the Gabion makers consisted of Squads of Six men Two Engrs [Engineers] and four Infantry). (The Fascine party of Twelve men three Engrs [Engineers] and Nine Infantry) under the supervision of an Engr. [Engineer] Sergeant. (The Sap Roller fatigue party consisted of a squad, Ten Men Two Engrs [Engineers] and Eight Infantry).
