(Funding) Electronic format produced as part of Reclaiming the Everglades, a collaborative project of the University of Miami, Florida International University, and the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, funded by the Library of Congress/Ameritech National Digital Library Program.; (Biographical) The Tamiami Trail Blazers crossed the Everglades in automobiles in 1923.

The cabins in the background, according to the local tradition, stand at or near the site of Abrams Cabin in which he and the others were massacred. The same tradition also points out a flat rock at the edge of the water, opposite to the cabins, upon which the Indians are said to be executed.
